The transport situation has become increasingly
difficult as Public Utilities etc. have started functioning
again.
The supply of vehicles from the services together
with requisitioned vehicles has only been able to produce
about 40% of requirements.
The attached list shows the vehicle state as taken
over on 1/10/45 from Capt. White of the Gimson Govt. and
the state now.
The Transport Section have operated three garages
who have been working very hard and have managed to keep the
vehicles on the road in a very creditable manner.
The Royal Navy has been unable to offer assistance to

The Army have helped as under:
Major Barrett and Major Ritchie, 103 Mobile Workshops,
I.E.M.5., have loaned 5 N.C.0.s to assist in supervising
maintenance work at our garages. Assistance has also been
given in storing away motor spares, of which vast uncatalogued
stocks were found.
The R.A.F. have allotted to the Land Transport Pool
a number of load carriers, ambulances, etc. details shown in
list. One N.C.O. was attached to Transport Office Headquarters,
but he has since been posted to his unit.
Valuable help has been given by the U.S. Naval repair
ship "Prometheus". They have supplied us with assorted tools,
bearing white metal: jobs which required skilled operators of high grade workshop equipment have been done for us in their workshops. On our representation, assistance has been given
to the. Yaumati Ferry Coy to help overhaul their vehicular
ferry
e.g. replacement diesel pistons and cylinder liners.
Major C.H. Page and three R.A.S.C. officers have now
arrived and they are in the process of taking over.
